This Boro to be #50-B can be used as is, or to your Sashiko project. The edge is not trimmed. However, it can be used for the placemat when the friction isn't that significant. The more the fabric is used, the more it will get "torn". The fading color & its damage will make more "Boro-Like" looking. It will take years of time to make a Boro piece. Therefore, I hope you would enjoy using the fabric & then stitch together with your own favorite fabric when the repair is necessary.
===== A Story ====
The Japanese used to say that, if one has a size of fabric big enough to wrap 3 soybeans (About 2-inch square, I assume), she should keep the fabric so she may be able to use it for the next mending (boro) project.
We simply respect the previous mindset and culture the Japanese passed down.

In a process of making Sashiko items, we collect many small swatches that we cannot even offer in a store as the swatch. We do not throw away the beautiful fabric even if it is small. Our goal is to follow the Japanese mindset that a story tells us.
Enjoy the touch of Boro-making, and to be Boro fabric.
Sashiko is done with Natural Dye Sashiko Thread to match the Japanese Vintage Fabric.
